Flying Start making a difference
The Barry-based Flying Start project has marked Child Safety
Week with a series of visits to local schools in its area.
Accidents are the second biggest killer of children in the UK,
with six dying every week and over 2,000 admitted to hospital.
Talking to children and parents, Flying Start personnel explained
the real risks and the simple changes that can be made to ensure
homes are safer for all families.
The theme of the week was
"Make a Change - Make a Difference," highlighting the fact
that making small changes in our everyday lives can make a big
difference to children's safety. Flying Start health co-ordinator
Pamela Daniels said: "What we want is to help children enjoy safer,
healthier and more active lives."
Flying Start is a Welsh Assembly Government initiative being
delivered through the Vale of Glamorgan Council in partnership with
the Vale Local Health Board, Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust and the
voluntary sector. It is targeting just under 600 children up to
four years of age in the catchment areas for Jenner Park, Cadoxton
and Oak Field schools.
