Industrial action to hit Vale of Glamorgan services
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is warning of the potential for
"significant disruption" to services during the strike by unions
Unison and Unite on Wednesday and Thursday, 16 and 17 July.
The council will not know exactly which services are affected
until the morning of the strike but will endeavour to offer
essential services. The unions have agreed to support a number of
key services relied upon by the most vulnerable members of the
community and to respond to ‘life and limb’ emergencies.
The position as far as the council is concerned (as at 9 July)
is as follows:
• Individual schools will be advising parents whether they will
open to pupils.
• Council offices will remain open to the public and the
Civic Offices (Barry)-based Registration Service will open for the
registration of deaths but not for the registration of births or
marriage interviews.
• The public are advised to telephone in advance to check on the
up-to-date position in relation to libraries, and council leisure
centres at Penarth, Barry, Cowbridge and Llantwit Major.
• It is likely that refuse and recycling collections will be
severely disrupted so residents are asked not to place items at the
kerbside and to retain bin bags and recycling material for their
next scheduled collections. The recycling collections will, of
course, be affected for two weeks so residents are asked to double
check which materials are due for collection in their area.
Alternatively, items can be taken to the civic amenity sites at
Sully and Llandow. Public toilets will be closed.
• Contact OneVale will remain in operation on 01446 700111
although the scope of services normally provided may be curtailed
by the strike action.
