Vale babies wanted for real nappy calendar

Waste Awareness Wales is reminding parents in the Vale of Glamorgan that there is still time to enter their competition - a search for Wales’ most adorable babies to star in a new ‘Real Nappy Calendar.'

As part of the Real Nappy Campaign, Waste Awareness Wales (WAW), with the support of the Vale council, has launched the calendar to encourage parents to consider using real nappies on their babies. For every potty trained child in Wales, around 5,000 disposable nappies will have been sent to landfill so WAW is asking parents to consider using reusable nappies to help save the environment - and their wallets.

The closing date of the competition is 27 June, and WAW development officer Gwenan Davie said: “We’ve had a great response so far but there’s still a chance for parents to snap up this fantastic opportunity - and all you need to do to enter is send in a picture of your baby wearing a real nappy.

“Real nappies have changed a lot since many people’s last experiences of them - these days there’s not a safety pin in sight. Today they come in bright patterns, are ‘nappy shaped,' fasten with fabric fasteners or poppers and they’re so easy to wash - there’s no need to soak or boil wash, making them incredibly easy to use. Best of all, they’re not just good for the environment - with savings of up to £500 for the first child you use them on, they are kind to your finances too.”

WAW will be producing a calendar of babies in real nappies to help spread the message. If you think your baby could be the face of real nappies, then send a recent photo of your baby wearing a real nappy with name and contact details to Waste Awareness Wales at Golley Slater PR, Wharton Street, Wharton Place, Cardiff CF10 1GS.
