Major investment works delayed
Dwr Cymru Welsh Water is assuring customers that the planned
investment work to help alleviate potential incidents of flooding
in the Barry area is still on track to hit its completion target
date - despite a delay in starting work.
The works, which include the laying of a large new sewer, were
due to start in May but have now been put back by two months.
Dwr Cymru Welsh Water’s regional investment manager Andrew Bowen
explained: “We’d like to reassure customers that, despite this
delay, we are still confident that work will be completed by our
original target of spring 2009. We apologise for this late change
to the schedule but it was essential to ensure complete agreement
with all parties involved in the planning of the project.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. We will, of course,
continue to keep the local community informed of our plans.”
The works, which include the laying of a large new sewer, will
be undertaken by contractors Morgan Est plc working for Welsh
Water. Before the sewer can be constructed, major service
diversions of gas, electricity and telecom need to be undertaken
and will require the temporary closure of the tunnel linking Weston
Square and Cardiff Road.
