Alan Salisbury's postcardPictures chosen for 'twin towns' souvenir booklet

Three pictures of scenes in and around Barry Island have been selected by the public for a 'twin towns' souvenir booklet.

Selected from 25 postcard-sized pictures of the area by members of the Vale of Glamorgan Artists group, the winning entries, and views of the Vale's main towns, will feature alongside similar contributions from the twin towns of Fecamp (France), Rheinfelden (Germany) and Mouscron (Belgium).

Eve Hart's postcardThis year marks twinning anniversaries with Fecamp (50 years), Rheinfelden (40 years) and Mouscron (25 years) and, in addition to the booklet, the Vale council and its 'partners' are mounting an exhibition of all the submitted works - around 100 in total.

The exhibition opens in Fecamp at their Festival of the Sea in June and moves on Mouscron during July and August and Rheinfelden in September as part of the town’s street stall festival, Troitterfest. It will open in the Vale at the Cowbridge Food and Drink Festival, 25 and 26 October, before moving on to Art Central in the Town Hall, Barry.

Peter Moulding's postcardThe Vale's booklet pictures will be 'The Carousel Comes to Barry' (Eve Hart, above)), 'The Old Harbour' (Peter Moulding, right) and 'A Trip to Barry Island' (Alan Salisbury, top right). Eve, who enjoys working on small-scale paintings of familiar local scenes, produced her top entry after a visit to the Island with her grandchildren.

Vale Mayor Cllr Clive Williams, who congratulated the artists, heard that the group, founded in 1997, has members from across the area. It has organised numerous exhibitions, including one at the Welsh Assembly, and already has close links with Fecamp and Rheinfelden where they have also exhibited.
