Young tennis stars set a high standard
Three Vale of
Glamorgan primary schools have progressed through to the South
Wales regional finals of a national mini tennis competition.
Organised by Tennis Wales, the local round of the competition
was hosted by the Windsor Lawn Tennis Club at Penarth and supported
by the Dragon Sport team from the Vale council. Club coach Imed
Hamrouni and his team of junior organisers umpired the event which
was a great success.
More than 140 youngsters representing seven Vale primary schools
took part in three age groups for boys, girls and mixed teams.
Going forward to represent the Vale in the next round at the
Afan Lido in June are Llansannor, who triumphed in four categories,
Evenlode (Penarth) and St Andrew's Major (Dinas Powys) Church in
Wales (two each) and Westbourne (Penarth). Also taking part were
Sully, Gwenfo and Albert (Penarth).
Vale council Dragon Sport co-ordinator Rachel McGuinness
said: “The commitment of the club's junior organisers and the
enthusiasm of parents and teachers was very much appreciated.
Dragon Sport wish the teams the best of luck in the next
round."
The Windsor club runs drop in sessions for children from as
young as four as well as coaching for adults, and Imed said: “I was
delighted with the response to today’s tournament. Windsor Lawn
Tennis Club is such a super facility and it's great to see it so
busy.”
