Your child can make a splash by learning to swim at the Vale’s
Leisure Centres
Children can learn to swim this winter with lessons at the Vale
of Glamorgan Council’s Leisure Centres.
Absolute beginners aged four and above can take their first
steps to swimming - a potentially life saving skill - at
‘SwimStyle’ classes being held in the pools at the Leisure Centres
in Barry, Penarth and Llantwit Major.
Experienced teachers will lead the lessons, in which children
will learn in small groups that will be each be kept to a maximum
of eight places. The next ten-week batch of lessons starts during
the week commencing Monday 8 December and costs from £35.50.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s ‘SwimStyle’ swimming
co-ordinator Linda Smith said: “Getting your child swimming from a
young age is the best way to make sure they grow up to be strong
confident swimmers. Our classes are extremely fun and initially
cover three stages which lead to the children learning the water
safety code and progressing to swimming 10m without
assistance.”
In addition to these beginner classes for children, lessons for
adults are also organised at the Vale Council’s Leisure Centres, as
well as more advanced classes.
Linda added: “Swimming is an excellent activity for all ages and
we are hoping that Great Britain’s success in the pool at the
Olympics will spur on greater numbers to either learn how to swim
or swim more regularly.”
From Saturday 29 November, you can book your child’s place on
the next batch of swimming lessons by calling Linda or Jade Edwards
on 01446 744770, or by popping into your local Vale of Glamorgan
Council Leisure Centre. For further information, visit www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/leisurecentres.
