A new voice for Penarth youngsters

Members of the Penarth Youth Action group, with Council leader Gordon KempYoung people in Penarth have a new vehicle to promote their views thanks to the creation of the town’s very first youth council.

Penarth Youth Action has been set up as a joint venture between the Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service, Penarth Town Council and the voluntary sector, and will have the opportunity to influence stakeholders and policymakers on issues affecting younger members of the community, as well as raising the positive profile of young people in the area.

The official launch of the new fifteen-strong group, held at the Washington Gallery, was attended by Cllr Sophie Williams, the Vale of Glamorgan’s Youth Champion, and the Leader of the Council, Cllr Gordon Kemp. The evening included a presentation by members of the PYA and an opportunity for those who attended to get to know the new team.

Cllr Williams said: “Without the support and dedication we've received from the excellent youth workers in Penarth this project just wouldn't have been possible.

“It's a fantastic opportunity for young people to work with Penarth Town Council on projects such as a youth park and the youth summer festival.

“This is a great chance for young people in Penarth to get involved in planning for their future and to show everyone first-hand the great things they can do.”
