New martial arts club for people with disabilities

 

The Vale Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism Cllr Anthony Ernest (left) with a few members of other local WCKA clubs, Master Derek Hughes (third from left) and the council’s Disability Sport Wales Officer Linda Ruston (back centre).A new karate, kick-boxing and self-defence club for people with disabilities and additional needs has been launched in Penarth.

 

The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Disability Sport Wales Officer Linda Ruston said: “The club is being led by Master Derek Hughes of the WCKA Black Belt Academy and is suitable for people with a wide range of abilities, including people with a physical disability, cerebral palsy, learning disability, autism, autistic spectrum, dyspraxia, low muscle tone and ADHD.”

 

The club meet every Tuesday from 7:30pm – 8:30pm at the Headlands School gym on St Augustine’s Road in Penarth. All ages are welcome to go along and your first session will be free!

 

The Vale Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism Cllr Anthony Ernest visited the club’s launch evening and was delighted to see members from other WCKA clubs in the Vale demonstrating the moves that people could soon be picking up at the new club.
