Barry Dragons receive their Christmas post! - 22/12/06
The development of a Barry-based netball club has been boosted
courtesy of the Dragon Sport initiative.
The Barry Dragons club, which has an under-11 side playing in
the Cardiff and Vale League, has been presented with two new
netball posts.
Coaches Linda Rees and Sara Edwards run weekly (Monday) training
sessions (5-6pm) for around 30 youngsters and are hoping to enter
an under-10 team in the league in the New Year.
Linda and Sara, who are really pleased with the standard of
netball being played by their squad, attended Dragon Sport training
before completing a series of coaching awards in the four years of
running the junior section.
They are always looking for interested parties wishing to become
involved with the club, ie, young players looking for coaching
experience or parents who have other skills to offer.
The Dragon Sport scheme offers free training to anyone
interested in becoming involved with children seven to 11 years old
and focuses on basic coaching techniques as well as safety
organisation and child protection issues.
Vale Dragon Sport co-ordinator Rachel McGuinness said: “Dragon
Sport is delighted to deliver the netball posts to Barry Dragons
and hope it will allow the club to further develop their
training.”
