Cadoxton teachers take on the dragon! - 11/12/06
Twelve teachers from Cadoxton Primary School have received
Dragon Sport training in preparation for new after-school clubs
they have on offer following the opening of the school's new sports
hall.
With equipment and resource cards gained through the Dragon
Sport scheme, teachers are now pleased to offer after-school clubs
for netball and multi-activities, as well as the existing football
clubs. Staff are also exploring the possibility of setting up
cricket and athletics clubs next summer.
The Dragon Sport scheme aims to offer more sporting
opportunities to children aged 7-11 years old. Offering eight
sports, ranging from netball to golf, Dragon Sport provides
training opportunities for teachers, parents or members of the
community who wish to get involved with sport and get children
active.
Cadoxton Primary School has embraced the scheme, taking on board
the Dragon Sport philosophy of ‘fun and fair play’. Rachel
McGuinness, Dragon Sport Coordinator for the Vale of Glamorgan
Council, congratulated the teachers, saying: “I am really pleased
with the enthusiasm that Cadoxton School has shown for getting
involved with the scheme. It will provide great fun for the
children, offering them a varied range of activities to ultimately
keep them fit!”
Rhian Baker, physical education coordinator for Cadoxton
Primary, added: “The sports hall is a superb facility and we are
lucky to have well equipped facilities. It is a really exciting
time for Cadoxton Primary School.”
The teachers who will receive their Dragon Sport certificates
are Rhian Baker, Deborah Forse, Nick Broushton, Peter Thompson,
Cheryl Ellis, Tracy Buckle, Jane Goldworthy, Mandy Ballet, Valerie
Barrow, Davina Lingard, Elaine Holley and Cerian Clark.
