Employed man's unlawful benefits - 22/12/06

A Barry man, who admitted unlawfully obtaining Housing and Council Tax Benefit, has been given a 12-month conditional discharge by Vale of Glamorgan magistrates.

Jose Campos, of Powys View, was further ordered to pay Vale Council costs of £200.

The court heard that the Council received an anonymous tip off that Mr Campos, who was receiving benefits, had gained employment at the Welsh Assembly but not informed the council. As a result, he received overpayments of Housing Benefit (£2,191.65) and Council Tax Benefit (£475.26). Both amounts are recoverable.
