Barry's Holton Road prepares for next phase of regeneration -
01/12/06
In the run up to the start of a major programme of improvements
aimed at revitalising Holton Road and Thompson Street in the centre
of Barry, the Vale of Glamorgan Council is hosting a series of
drop-in information sessions.
The Council has been awarded a £1m grant from the Welsh Assembly
Government for the work, the first phase of which is due to start
early in January, 2007.
The purpose of the drop-in-sessions, to be held at the Barry
Town Hall (foyer-east wing) is to provide the business community
and town centre users with up to date information on what is going
to happen and when, and they are scheduled as follows: December 5,
6 and 7, December 12, 13 and 14 and December 19, 20 and 21. There
will be three sessions on each of the nine days from 8am-10am,
12noon-2pm and 5pm-7pm.
Council Leader Cllr Jeffrey James said: “Feedback from a variety
of sources has been and will continue to be an important
consideration in the implementation of this work. We are fully
aware of the disruptive impact such work will bring to the town
centre and recognise the importance of continual liaison to
minimise disruption as far as is reasonably practical.
“Successful town centres are vital to thriving communities.
Following the successful restoration of Barry Town Hall, King
Square and Central Park, I am confident that this scheme will make
Holton Road more attractive to retail investment and as a place in
which to spend time whilst being accessible to all.”
