Work starts on new facilities at Dinas Powys sports venue -
21/12/06
Work is well underway on a Vale of Glamorgan Council project
involving the construction of new changing rooms and a cricket
pavilion at the Parc Bryn Y Don sports venue in Dinas Powys.
On completion, the new complex will replace the old and less
desirable temporary pavilions that have been used since the site
opened.
Welcoming the start of work on the "impressive new facility,"
Council Leader Cllr Margaret Alexander said: “This project will be
of great benefit to local residents and I would like to thank the
local members and clubs for their support.
"This will undoubtedly increase the facilities available to
encourage the community to play more sports at this venue."
The facility will have eight changing rooms, rooms for referees
to allow the use of all pitches at one time, and a community room
with a small kitchen.
The council's Parks and Grounds Maintenance staff will also
benefit with storage room for equipment used to maintain the
site.
Operational Manager (Parks and Grounds Maintenance) Phil Beaman
said that, as part of the capital projects at the site, a
skateboard facility was currently being procured. "This will
provide further long-awaited facilities in Dinas Powys," he
added.
“This has been a great project working in conjunction with the
clubs and the community, and I will be looking to the communities
to maximise use of these facilities to increase a wide range of
activities.
"The Parks Division will continue to manage the facilities for
the benefit of the whole community."
