Project brings together schools from across Europe - 05/12/06

Barry Island primary school has become the first school in the Vale of Glamorgan to become involved with the European-wide 'Commenius' project.

The project, funded by the British Council, enables schools from across the continent to work together on joint initiatives to gain a better understanding of how each school operates.

Barry Island primary school have teamed up with schools from Valkeakoski (Finland), Warsaw (Poland) and Leeuwarden (Holland) for an initiative called 'Peaceful School' in which pupils are studying issues including anti-bullying and conflict resolutions.

Finding out how these issues are tackled in different countries opens up a wealth of new learning opportunities for pupils and teachers alike.
