Activale Youth Directory - 01/02/07

Young people in the Vale of Glamorgan will soon be able to find out about all activities available to them locally by accessing the "Activale Youth Directory."

The directory will contain information on more than 250 organisations providing services and activities for young people aged 11 to 25 years.

So, whether you want to find out where your local football club is, or you are interested in doing volunteer work, all the information will be at your fingertips.

The directory is split into 13 sections including, for example, sports, leisure, arts, education, employment and training, health, money, and family and relationships.

A directory and a supply of CD versions will be sent to every school and library in the area. CDs will also be distributed to all organisations listed in the directory. The information will also soon be available on the web.

The directory has been created and produced by the Children & Young People’s Information Service (CYPIS) through a steering group of representatives from the Young People’s Partnership (YPP) and 14-19 Network.

CYPIS already provide an information service to parents and carers about childcare available in the Vale as well as other services for children aged 0 - 10, information on tax credits and how to set up childcare provision.

This project has expanded the database of information to include services for young people up to age 25 years. It has been funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, and young people and youth groups have been involved throughout.

Project officer Steve Maher said: “Carrying out an audit of all services for young people has been hard work but so worthwhile. I didn’t realise there was so much available in the Vale and the information that did exist was certainly not available from a single information source.

"Hopefully, this initiative will help more young people use the services that are provided for them and encourage them to make better use of information providers in the area.

"We also hope that groups and organisations that provide or commission services for young people will find the directory a useful guide for both signposting and to identify areas for development."
