Barry day centre hits target with new tournament -
26/02/07
A darts tournament at Barry's New Horizons Day Centre provided
an opportunity for users to display their skills and enjoy some
friendly competition.
Organised by Day Service Officers Faye Harding
and John Saunders, the event featured 12 players who received
plaques and certificates from Vale of Glamorgan Council Disability
Sport Wales Development Officer Linda Ruston.
Vale Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and
Tourism Cllr Gwyn John, who was delighted to hear that the event
had been a resounding success, said: “The in-house tournament
offered an opportunity for individuals to improve their
co-ordination, enter into a competitive challenge, and have a bit
of fun whilst making personal progress. Congratulations to everyone
who took part.”
Slight modifications were introduced to
account for wheelchair users, with the board lowered and the oche
realigned proportionately to ensure fair play.
Taking part were winner Andrew Davies, Keiron
Rees (second), Paul Weeks (third), Robert Crocker, Dilwyn Williams,
Phillip Hockey, Brett Thompson, Mark Alexander, John Davies, John
Saunders, Keith Everleigh and Peter Stevenson.
