Report to focus on homelessness in the Vale - 01/02/07
The Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet has called for a
wide-ranging report on the extent of homelessness/rough sleeping in
the area.
In line with requirements of the Welsh Assembly Government, the
plan is to establish a system for proactive monitoring of the
situation in the county, and Cabinet Member for Housing and
Community Safety Cllr Margaret Wilkinson said: "This move will help
us establish services to protect and support some of the most
vulnerable members of the community."
In addition to allocating £17,000 to undertake the audit, the
Cabinet agreed further funding of £23,000 to support local
initiatives – Home Access Trust and Llamau Housing, who offer
advice and assistance to people either homeless or threatened with
homelessness, and a project providing grants to previously homeless
people to help with the purchase of furniture.
