Challenge yourself by signing up for the LifeStyle Porthkerry Plod - 14/02/07

Runners of all abilities are being invited to take part in a five-mile challenge at Barry's picturesque Porthlkerry Country Park.

The second LifeStyle Porthkerry Plod, organised in association with Penarth and Dinas Runners, takes place on Sunday, April 29.

It is hoped that the resounding success of last year's inaugural event will ensure that even more runners will be on the starting line at 10am.

The scenic course will take runners along open fields, roads, woodland and coastal paths – offering extra incentive to leap out of bed on a Sunday morning for a prompt start.

LifeStyle Health and Fitness has a range of memberships at the Vale of Glamorgan Council's state of the art gyms in Barry, Cowbridge, Llantwit Major and Penarth leisure centres, and staff and customers will be among the entrants.

LifeStyle operations manager Jon Rogers urges everyone to consider taking up the challenge. He said: “Our team can put together a personal training programme for the Porthkerry Plod. The first 200 people to pay and enter also receive a LifeStyle T-shirt.”

Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Gwyn John added: “Health and fitness is important, regardless of age. The LifeStyle Porthkerry Plod offers Vale residents a chance to prove that they have the stamina and motivation to train and complete a race with like-minded people.”

Entry is £6 for LifeStyle and affiliated members or £7 for unaffiliated members. To enter, telephone Andrew, from Penarth & Dinas Runners, on 07879 060 270. Alternatively, you can enter via www.runnersworld.com or get an application form from LifeStyle reception desks. The closing date for entry is April 25.
