A Vale of Glamorgan event in support of the World's Biggest
Coffee Morning (2006) has raised more than £2,500 for Macmillan
Cancer Relief.
Hosted by Vale Mayor Cllr Nic Hodges and the Vale Council's
Health Through Warmth initiative, a special coffee morning at Barry
Leisure Centre, and a series of supporting events, raised just over
£1,250 which was very generously match funded by RWE npower to
realise a total of £2,547.08.
Having been held for the last 16 years, the World's Biggest
Coffee Morning is the charity's annual flagship fundraiser, and the
Barry event included information stands from: -
o Macmillan Cancer Relief
o Energy Advice Centre
o Care & Repair
o Age Concern
o Community Enterprise
o Neighbourhood Watch
As well as learning more about a wide range of services
available in the Vale, members of the public enjoyed a raffle,
supported by local businesses, with more than 20 prizes, and a
"Name the Teddy Bear" competition.
Council staff added their support by dressing “Casual for
Cancer” for a £1 donation, while the proceeds of a raffle in the
Chief Executive's department also boosted the final figure.
In addition to donations from councillors, the Wyndham
Conservative Club in Barry brought their full Macmillan collection
box to add to the final total.
Health Through Warmth co-ordinator Hannah Jones said: "I am
delighted that so many people were able to join in this series of
events in support of an excellent cause."
