Directories recycling race hots up - 18/01/07
Schools across the Vale of Glamorgan are in a recycling frenzy
as they collect as many old Yellow Pages directories as
possible.
More than 20 local schools are taking part in the Yellow Woods
Challenge – the simple, educational and fun environmental campaign
for schools run by Yellow Pages, working with the Woodland Trust
and the Vale Council.
For the past four weeks, the schools have been competing against
each other to collect tonnes of old Yellow Pages directories for
recycling and win cash prizes.
A share of £600 is at stake for schools recycling the most
directories per pupil and a bonus of £100 will be awarded to the
school that displays outstanding achievement in this year’s
recycling competition. For every pound Yellow Pages awards to
schools in cash prizes, it will give a matching pound to the
Woodland Trust to support its ‘Tree For All’ campaign.
Vale Council waste awareness officer Sam Harrison said: “The
Yellow Woods Challenge is an excellent recycling initiative that
helps to teach schoolchildren the importance of recycling and the
environment.
“With the help of the local community, we’re hoping to beat last
year’s impressive total of 13.5 tonnes of old Yellow Pages
directories collected for recycling. Please support your local
school by giving a pupil your old Yellow Pages directory.”
Watch out for the results of the competition, which closes at
the beginning of February.
