Deputy mayor's role for Cllr Clive Williams - 15/01/07
The Vale of Glamorgan Council has elected Cllr Clive Williams
as Deputy Mayor for the remainder of the municipal year.
The election was necessary after incumbent Cllr Chris Williams,
of Dinas Powys, took on the Planning and Transportation portfolio
in the new Cabinet.
Conservative councillor Cllr Wiliams, who received an MBE in
2005 for services to local government, was first elected as a
councillor in 1982. He has served on the former Vale Borough
Council, the current Vale Council – where he has been a Cabinet
Member for Social and Care Services and Human Resources – and
Penarth Town Council. He was Penarth Town Mayor in 1987.
The Deputy Mayoress will be Cllr Williams' wife, Gwyneth
At the same meeting, the new Council Leader, Cllr Margaret
Alexander, who has taken on the Policy and Regeneration portfolio,
announced her full Cabinet: Deputy Leader Cllr Neil Moore (Finance,
ICT and Property), Cllr Chris Franks (Legal and Public Protection),
Cllr Gwyn John (Tourism and Leisure), Cllr Chris Williams (Planning
and Transportation), Cllr Nigel Gibbs (Education and Training),
Cllr Stuart Egan (Social and Care Services), Cllr Margaret
Wilkinson (Housing and Community Safety), Human Resources (Cllr
Margaret Randall) and Visible and Building Services (Cllr Rob
Curtis).
In other moves, former Council Leader Cllr Jeffrey James and
Cllr Tony Hampton were elected as chairmen of Scrutiny (Corporate
Resources) and Scrutiny (Lifelong Learning) respectively, replacing
Cllrs Chris Williams and Chris Franks, and Cllrs Keith Stockdale
and Eric Hacker were elected vice-chairmen of Scrutiny Community
Wellbeing and Safety) and Scrutiny (Lifelong Learning)
respectively, replacing Cllrs Rob Curtis and Stuart Egan.
Cllr Andrew Dobbinson was elected to replace Cllr Moore as
vice-chairman of the authority's Audit Committee.
