Security staff on certificate alert - 05/01/07
Vale of Glamorgan Council security staff have been presented
with certificates to mark the successful completion of a special
course.
The security section provides a largely hidden service to many
users of council premises and services but is paramount in ensuring
that local authority properties are safe and secure.
Every security officer will undertake the National Open College
Network (NOCN) Level 2 Course in Static Guarding, which qualifies
them to apply for a Security Industry Authority (SIA) Licence.
It is a legal requirement for all employees operating within the
private security industry to be licensed, and this will extend to
public sector in house services in 2007.
Cllr Anthony Ernest, who presented the certificates, said: "The
security industry is changing and this is just the first step by
the authority to meet those changes.
"The successful completion of this nationally recognised
qualification reaffirms our commitment to ensuring our staff are
trained to the highest standards and there is continual development
of the security section."
