Vale of Glamorgan businesses: Are you ready? - 02/03/07

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is stepping up its efforts to ensure that all businesses are ready for the new smoke free legislation coming into force on April 2.

Council officers, who are currently running a series of business advisory sessions, have found that many businesses think they will not be affected by the law or that they already comply.

The legislation will apply to all public places, workplaces and even premises where voluntary work is carried out – not just pubs, hotels and restaurants.

Operational Manager (Regulatory Services) Kate Thompson said: "With very few exceptions, every business and organisation will need to take steps to ensure that employees, customers and other visitors do not smoke on their premises.

"The law will require all businesses, whether they are currently smoke free or not, to display bilingual no smoking signs at or near each entrance."
