Blues and Ospreys Under-18s meet at Jenner Park - 17/11/06

Barry's Jenner Park Stadium is expected to attract a near capacity crowd when under-18 sides from two of Wales' regional clubs clash on Wednesday, November 29 (kick-off 7.15pm)

This will be the first rugby match at the Barry stadium for about 20 years and, with free entry courtesy of Dragon Sport, there is expected to be large support for the sides representing Cardiff Blues, encompassing the Vale, and Neath/Swansea Ospreys.

The semi-final match takes on added significance as the winners go on to a final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium later in the season.

The match will preceded by a marching display by the Royal Welsh Corps of Drums who will be accompanied by their unique mascot – a real live goat!

Welsh Guardsman Micky Spillane, who has recently joined the Sports Development team at the Vale of Glamorgan Council on secondment, says: “The atmosphere will be very special for families and friends alike. The Welsh Fusiliers will proudly drum up a wonderful atmosphere so that the fans get behind both teams.”

Vale rugby development officer Matt Silva, a former Cardiff player and current coach with the Llantwit Major club, is Blues Under-18s Director. He says: “I am delighted the Blues Under-18s are playing at Jenner Park. We are certainly up for the challenge and hope that we have as many Vale and Cardiff supporters as possible to cheer us on.”

Dragon Sport is a Sports Council for Wales/Lottery initiative aimed at increasing grass roots opportunities in the Vale for seven to 11 year olds, and free tickets have already been allocated to Vale primary schools on request.

Individual applications for free tickets can be made to Glen Watkins on (01446) 704816. Unfortunately, tickets cannot be posted out and will need to be collected from the reception area at the Barry Dock Offices. Tickets are offered on a first come, first served basis. Supporters will not be admitted without a ticket, and organisers reserve the right to refuse entry.
