Fourteen Vale organisations secure Community Chest funding - 30/11/06

 

Fourteen more Vale of Glamorgan clubs, schemes and schools are to benefit from the latest round of Community Chest funding totalling £10,000.

 

This excellent funding opportunity is controlled by the Sports Council for Wales, in conjunction with the Sports, Arts and Play Development team at the Vale of Glamorgan Council, and a special panel convenes on a quarterly basis to agree financial assistance subject to applicants meeting set criteria.

 

The maximum award of £750 has now been secured by seven clubs – Llantwit Major Football Club (for a soccer project for under-18s); Penarth Swimming and Water Polo Club (to improve standards of coaching); Rhoose Rangers Football Club (to provide coaching and facilities for two new teams); Active for Life (to set up a cycling referral project and help train instructors); Barry West End Amateur Boxing Club (to provide further facilities for youngsters); WCKA Karate/Kickboxing (to establish an after school club) and Rhoose Lifeguard Club (to assist with the purchase of essential equipment).

 

Other awards were:

• Cowbridge Junior Squash Club (£740 to help increase membership);

• Colwinston After School Club (£510 to establish structured sporting activities);

• St. Athan Youth Club (£701.95 to provide structured sports activity on a weekly basis and to purchase of equipment);

• Dinas Powys Golf Club (£747 to encourage participation by women);

• Vale Cricket Club (£710 to provide more trained coaches);

• Master Mariner Football Club (£738.99 to expand junior section, set up a girls’ under-11s team and purchase equipment), and

• Llantwit Major School (£300 to increase gymnastic opportunities and extend coaching opportunities).

 

The last meeting of the Community Chest Funding financial year takes place on 13th February, 2007, and there is still around £40,000 available for distribution.

 

Encouraging organisations to apply for funding, Vale Sports, Arts and Play Development team manager Karen Davies said: “Applications are welcomed from a broad section of the community such as youth clubs, women's institutes, local historical societies, the health sector and slimmers’ groups, and I am happy to discuss any proposals before they are formally submitted. We really do want as many people as possible to benefit from this amazing funding opportunity at a local level.”
