Computer courses are big hit with adult learners -
30/11/06
Adult learners across the Vale of Glamorgan are celebrating
their success on courses enabling individuals to demonstrate their
competence in computer skills.
The European Computer Driving Licence classes have been held at
community learning centres at Palmerston (Barry), Llantwit Major
Comprehensive School, Cowbridge Community College, which also
delivers the ECDL advanced qualification, and Stangate House
(Penarth), and achievements were recognised through the
presentation of certificates by Vale Cabinet Member for Education
and Training Cllr Tony Hampton.
The ECDL is an internationally recognised qualification and the
fastest growing IT user qualification in more 125 countries.
Presenting the certificates at the Cowbridge venue, Cllr Hampton
said: "The Vale Adult and Community Learning Service is now in the
sixth year of delivering the qualification.
"ICT is increasingly important for everyone to learn skills and
gain qualifications, and the Council is committed to helping
individuals gain the skills they need."
The community learning service caters for people of all ages,
with the oldest learner taking an ECDL course this year being aged
75. Cllr Hampton added: "The service makes full use of the
wonderful equipment available in the libraries to hold revision
sessions, and these were available in both Barry and
Cowbridge."
ECDL classes are growing in number as more people become aware
of the quality of the teaching and learning, and this year there
are 85 learners – an increase of 20% on last year.
