Two-minute silence at Merchant Seamen's Memorial -
02/11/06
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is again supporting the Royal
British Legion and its nationwide observance of a two-minute
silence on Armistice Day.
At 11am on Saturday, November 11, the public are invited to join
Vale Mayor Cllr Nic Hodges, Council officers and members and
representatives of local organisations at a short service at the
Merchant Seamen’s Memorial outside the Civic Offices. Following the
service, Cllr Hodges will lead the laying of wreaths.
The start and end of the service will be marked by the firing of
a ceremonial rocket.
Anyone wishing to take part is asked to assemble at the Civic
Offices forecourt at 10.50am, and Cllr Hodges said: “I hope as many
members of the public as possible will join me at the Civic Offices
for this moment of reflection.
”As long as there are British soldiers, sailors and airmen
willing to risk their lives in the service of their country, there
will be a Royal British Legion to support them, their families and
dependants, and I would once again appeal to the people of the Vale
to support this year’s Poppy Appeal as generously as they have in
the past."
