All weather mini sports pitch for Cowbridge - 30/11/06
A new all weather mini sports pitch has been provided by the
Vale of Glamorgan Council in Cowbridge.
Funding for the pitch at Bear Field has come through the
Football Association of Wales in conjunction with Europe's
governing body (UEFA). A second pitch is being provided at Windmill
Lane, Llantwit Major.
The 21m x 13m pitch, which can be used for soccer and
basketball, consists of a sand-filled artificial turf surface,
rebound walls and goals. There is also a facility for a volleyball
net to be erected.
Vale Cabinet Member for Visible Services Cllr Geoff Cox said:
"This impressive facility will be of great benefit to local
residents, and I would like to thank the FAW and UEFA for their
funding of this pitch for the community in Cowbridge. This
increases the all weather facilities available for youngsters to
play sports.”
Operational Manager (Parks and Grounds Maintenance) Phil Beaman
said: "This has been a tremendous project. Working in conjunction
with the FAW alongside the support from the Council Cabinet, local
members, town councils and local football clubs shows how a
partnership approach to projects benefits a community.
"I will be looking to the local communities to maximise the use
of these open access facilities to increase sports activity. The
Parks Division will manage the facilities for the benefit of the
community."
