New facilities at popular play area - 30/11/06
New equipment has been provided by the Vale of Glamorgan
Council at a popular play area in Rhoose.
The £30,000 scheme at the Celtic Way facility, which follows the
removal of old items, was completed by the Council's Parks and
Grounds Maintenance Division.
The new items on artificial grass safety surfacing include a set
of swings, a multi-unit, roundabout, seesaw and springer.
The site has attractive ornamental fencing to deter dogs and, in
order to increase safety for individuals and stop unauthorised
vehicles, a special barrier has been installed between the car park
and the grassed area.
Council Leader Cllr Jeffrey James, who, along with Cllr Gordon
Kemp represents the ward, said: "With limited resources, the Parks
and Grounds Maintenance Division is continuing to deliver a
programme of playground refurbishment and quality parks
facilities.
"I am delighted with the works undertaken to provide the local
children with this facility. The new equipment will prove to be
more robust, with a longer design life. It is especially pleasing
that the play area can now be used by the local playgroup in the
nearby community hall.”
Operational Manager (Parks and Grounds Maintenance) Phil Beaman
said: "A lot of work has now been put into the site to improve the
opportunities for the youngsters of the village, and I am keen that
the community protect and encourage local ownership of this
important open space. It will be good to see the children again
enjoying themselves in this playground."
