Vale Council unveil new street sweepers - 30/11/06
The Vale of Glamorgan Council has invested in three new
mechanical street sweepers as part of its on-going vehicle
replacement programme.
The new Johnson sweepers will replace those currently in use in
Barry, and will be used to clear gutters, footpaths and shopping
areas of all types of general litter, dog fouling and leaves.
Cabinet Member for Visible Services Cllr Geoff Cox said: "The
new vehicles are more efficient than the old ones and will,
therefore, enable us to increase the frequency of street cleaning
in Barry. We also plan to use them to clean areas that are reported
to the council by members of the public where litter has built up
between normal routine cleaning.”
New sweepers will be introduced into other areas of the Vale
when the vehicles currently in use are due for renewal.
Cabinet Member for Building and Vehicle Services Cllr Anthony
Ernest added: “We hope residents will notice a difference in the
standard of street cleanliness in Barry as a result of our ability
to clear litter more quickly. That said, we would also ask everyone
to help us keep the Vale clean by not dropping litter in the first
place.”
Residents are reminded that they can receive a £75 on the spot
fine for dropping litter in the street, from a car and for failing
to clean up after a dog.
