PACT awards for council car park - 27/11/06
The Vale of Glamorgan Council has been presented with two PACT
– Preventing Anti-social Crime Together – business excellence
awards for its Court Road Multi-Storey Car Park in Barry.
The PACT initiative, which is supported by the Police, enables
the sharing of information relating to crime and known
troublemakers across Barry. Via a small hand held radio link, live
information is shared between participating businesses and the
public sector.
The awards are made to local businesses and public sector bodies
who have made a significant contribution to the scheme in its
inaugural year, and were presented by PACT Chairman Dave Sharpe to
Cllr Geoff Cox, Vale Cabinet Member for Visible Services.
Mr Sharpe said the contribution played by the Council’s car park
and its staff was a significant factor in the success of the PACT
scheme which was improving business areas and the community.
Cllr Cox said: "The Council recognises the impact of crime in
the Barry area, and we are keen for our Highways Division to play
its rightful part in this scheme."
He said he was delighted staff in the Highways Division had been
recognised for their input to the prevention of crime, and the work
in the car park complemented initiatives being carried out in other
areas.
Keith Jones, Operational Manager (Highway Maintenance),
expressed his pleasure that the car park and staff had been
recognised. The multi-storey car park had undergone major
improvements to ensure that it met the very demanding ‘Park Mark’
Safer Car Park standard, and participation in the PACT scheme was
an added dimension to crime reduction initiatives.
He added that it was intended to seek the award of the ‘Park
Mark’ accreditation for the new Wyndham Street Car Park adjoining
the Town Hall.
