Vale Council thanks residents for excellent recycling
performance - 07/11/06
Residents have been thanked for helping the Vale of Glamorgan
Council win recognititon as the fourth best of Wales' 22 local
authorities for recycling in 2005/06.
Figures show that, in the Vale, 18.75% of waste was recycled
compared with 13.91% in 2004/05.
Thanking residents for their continued support of the Vale’s
recycling initiatives, Council Leader Cllr Jeffrey James said: “I
am justifiably proud of the tremendous efforts shown by residents
using our kerbside and bring site recycling services.
"I would also like to say a big thank you to our staff who
provide the service.
"It is pleasing to note that our performance continues to
improve year on year, and that more and more residents are now
taking part."
Head of Visible Services Miles Punter said: “Our recycling
performance is very encouraging and residents must be given great
credit for helping us achieve this. However, we still have some way
to go.
"Our combined recycling and composting figure was 25.54% for
2005/06 and we need to reach at least 40% by 2010 to meet Welsh
Assembly targets.
"In addition to encouraging more residents to recycle, we need
to significantly increase the amount of garden waste we compost.
Residents can help us by using our kerbside garden waste collection
service or the free garden waste skips at our household recycling
centres.
"We hope to introduce a much improved garden waste collection
service from next April which residents will find much easier to
use."
Residents are reminded that they can use the council’s free
kerbside collection service to recycle paper, glass and cans one
week, followed by clean plastic and cardboard the next.
Full recycling facilities, along with garden waste skips, are
also available at the council’s household recycling centres at
Hayes Road, Sully, and Llandow Trading Estate.
