Young role models lend a helping forehand at tennis club -
27/11/06
Promising young tennis players in Penarth will be passing on
their skills to junior players now that they have earned Dragon
Sport coaching qualifications.
The twelve youngsters from Windsor Tennis Club have gained their
Dragon Sport Organiser's Certificate to enable them to assist
professional coach Imed Hamrouni at the club's junior tennis
sessions.
The free course gave the young volunteers a basic understanding
of key coaching issues, with a focus on safety, organisation and
child protection procedures. They have all gained confidence to
work alongside Imed, or even lead Dragon Sport sessions. The
youngsters also received resource cards that suggest warm-up and
skill activities relevant to the age group.
Rachel McGuiness, the Vale of Glamorgan Council's Dragon Sport
Co-ordinator, said: “The twelve volunteers have shown maturity and
commitment in completing the course. They are also investing in
their own personal development and are a credit to the club.”
Windsor Tennis Club Junior Co-ordinator, Rob Wedlake, said:
“They will now ably help Imed with our Saturday morning sessions
and act as role models for the younger members.”
Imed is also grateful for their support, adding: “I am glad that
they assist at weekends and they also help when we host festivals
that require additional umpires and lines people - It’s a winning
situation for all!”
