Tree works at Fford y Mileniwm (Barry) - 17/11/06
Willow trees planted as a "nurse species" at The Barry
Waterfront are to be removed by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
The willows were planted along Fford y Mileniwm to provide
shelter for the permanent avenue species but have outgrown their
purpose and are inhibiting the growth of the other trees.
Operational Manager (Parks and Grounds Maintenance) Phil Beaman
said: "In addition, the willows are beginning to overhang the
highway and, if left unchecked, could cause problems to adjacent
boundary walls and buildings."
The removal work will be undertaken by Parks and Grounds
Maintenance and is expected to start at the end of November and be
completed early next month subject to weather conditions.
Mr Beaman added: "The aim of the project supports the long-term
objectives for the Barry Waterfront in providing a safe, attractive
and more sustainable environment and allowing the landscape to
develop to its full and intended potential."
