Vale residents urged to have a ‘green Halloween’ - 18/10/06

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is asking local residents to "think green this Halloween!"

There are lots of ways to make your Halloween a green one, they say. These include composting both the inside and the carcass of a spooky pumpkin head, making pumpkin soup and even toasting pumpkin seeds in the oven to make a healthy Halloween snack, salad sprinkle or topping for cakes and breads.

You can also make Halloween costumes from old clothes or those found in local charity shops.

Finally, if you’re having a Halloween Party, don’t forget to recycle all your glass, paper, cans, plastic and cardboard using the Council’s free kerbside collection service.

Cabinet Member for Visible Services Cllr Geoff Cox hopes Vale residents will do their bit. He said: “The many seasonal events that happen throughout the year such as Halloween usually involve parties and extra socialising and it is easy to create more rubbish than you normally would. Please do your bit by reducing your waste as much as possible, for example, by home composting, and by making full use of your local recycling facilities.”

Discounted compost bin are available to all Vale residents priced from just £10. Please call 01884 841 515 to order.
