Huge celebration party to mark Barry town centre regeneration -
18/10/06
Barry's impressive new multi-million pound Town Hall, Central
Park and King Square redevelopment will be celebrated at a huge
party on Friday 17th November, which will also include the
switch-on of the town's Christmas lights.
The party marks the completion of the £10m regeneration scheme
breathing new life into Barry. The scheme, which also includes a
new County Library, has been funded mainly by the Vale of Glamorgan
Council through its capital programme, with grant aid support from
the Welsh European Funding Office, Welsh Assembly, former Welsh
Development Agency and a Clear Skies grant towards a biomass boiler
for the new library.
The free, fun packed event, starting at 4pm, will feature a wide
range of live music from the Holton Road Primary School choir, RAF
St Athan Brass Band, Barry Male Voice Choir, Mabon, jazz from the
Keith Little Band, The VIBE Singers, and The Purple Hearts.
There will also be street entertainers, fire jugglers, food
stalls, and much more!
The Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Cllr Jeffery James,
and Children in Need's Pudsey Bear will switch on the Town Hall's
Christmas Lights at 6pm.
The evening will close at 8pm with a spectacular firework
display, sponsored by Kier Western.
