Catch the Vale’s first goalkeeping coaching clinic -
12/10/06
A first specialist goalkeeper coaching clinic is being offered
by the Football Development Unit at the Vale of Glamorgan
Council.
To be staged during the weekend of 4-5 November, the initiative
has been organised as a direct response to a surging popularity in
this key pitch position.
The football development team reported that their summer events
witnessed increasing interest in developing in this role, while the
local Football Academy currently has plenty of goalkeeper
talent.
The clinic will, hopefully, provide plenty of fun and offer
youngsters a taste into goalkeeping and, perhaps, present
opportunities for progress, ie, entry to either the Football
Association of Wales Trust Academy or participation in junior club
football.
Primary schoolchildren aged six to11 are invited to sign up,
join in the fun and develop their ability. Emphasis will be on
perfecting distribution, shot stopping and positioning
awareness.
The venue will be the Colcot Sports Centre, Barry, with the
sessions on Saturday (1-3pm) and Sunday (10am-3pm). The sessions
will take place on grass and all participants will receive a
certificate and small gift.
Vale Assistant Football Development Officer Nathan Nurton says:
“The weekend has been designed to offer a fantastic development
opportunity or simply offer boys and girls’ a taster of becoming a
goalkeeper.”
The clinic costs £21, with FreeStyle members benefiting from a
reduced price of £18.90 per child. Particpants must bring along
their own gloves.
