Free safety checks on child car seats - 24/10/06

Local parents are being offered the opportunity of a free safety check for child car seats in an initiative promoted by the Vale of Glamorgan Council's trading standards service and road safety team.

On Thursday, 2 November, at the Tesco Store (Culverhouse Cross) car park from 9.30am to 3.30pm, independent experts will be on hand to check infant carriers, child car seats, booster seats, etc, in the vehicle.

They can examine the seats, with or without the child, but would prefer to inspect with the child in to check their suitability with the seat.

The team will also answer questions and offer advice on the new laws relating to child restraints which came into effect this month.

In previous surveys conducted in Wales, approximately 75% of seats checked were found to be incorrectly fitted in some way. Some required minor adjustments but, in some cases, the seats were condemned as being unsafe.

No appointment is necessary; just turn up on the day (after 9.30am) and have your car seat checked for your peace of mind.
