Stronger links between local schools - 03/10/06
A pilot project aimed at developing stronger links between
special and mainstream schools will be rolled out in the Vale of
Glamorgan over the next three years.
Nearly £240,000 will be spent in developing outreach services
from the Vale's three special schools – Ashgrove, Ysgol Erw'r Delyn
and Ygsol Maes Dyfan – for mainstream school pupils with autistic
spectrum disorder, physical disabilities or severe and complex
learning disabilities.
The project is being funded by a Welsh Assembly Grant, and Vale
Cabinet Member for Education and Training Cllr Tony Hampton said:
"The project will help mainstream schools meet of the needs of
pupils with disabilities so that an increasing number of youngsters
will be able to remain within their local community schools rather
than transferring to the special schools."
