Compost Roadshow at Cowbridge - 26/09/06
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is inviting Cowbridge residents
to a compost roadshow in the town next weekend.
The event will take place in the newly-opened Physic Garden,
behind the Old Hall, on Saturday, 7 October, from 10.30am – 3.30pm
when Council staff will be on hand to offer information and advice
on home composting.
Residents can also enter a prize draw to win a home compost bin
and find out about other ways to reduce, reuse and recycle their
rubbish.
The roadshow has been organised in partnership with the
Cowbridge Physic Garden Trust. Volunteers will be available to show
visitors around the garden and explain the history of the project.
Younger visitors will also be invited to plant a bulb to take away
on the day to encourage them to take an interest in gardening.
Council Waste Development Officer Nicola Williams said: "We are
always looking for ways to spread the reduce, reuse, recycle
message and roadshows provide an ideal opportunity for us to get
out into the community to provide information and answer any
questions people may have.
"We are delighted to be working with representatives of
Cowbridge Physic Garden and hope many people will come along and
see the garden.”
Jean Reader, chair of the Trust’s planting group, added:
"Although it will be some time before the garden is fully planted
up, we’ll be open to the public from 1st October so everyone can
see how things are developing.
"We hope lots of people will come along and share their ideas on
reusing, reducing and recycling with us on 7th October as we are
still working on organising our own composting system in the
garden
"We’re especially looking forward to seeing children in the
garden; the first 100 will be able to plant up something to take
home with them at no cost. Our first batch of plants arrived
recently and volunteers are busy getting them planted so do come
and see how we are getting on.”
