Mobile libraries now available on Saturdays - 18/09/06
One of the most radical changes to take place since the
introduction of the Mobile Library service in the Vale of Glamorgan
takes effect later this month.
From 30th September, the mobile libraries take to the road on
alternate Saturdays, with one-and-a-quarter-hour stops in four
areas of Barry.
The schedule is as follows:
Barry Island (Friars Road, near Nell’s Point) – 9.30-10.45am
Highlight Park (Community Centre Car Park) – 11am-12.15pm
Colcot (Meggitt Road, near playground) – 1.45-3pm
Gibbonsdown (opposite Pendoylan Close) – 3.15-4.30pm
Look out for the van on the following Saturdays: 30 September,
14 and 28 October, 11 and 25 November and 9 December.
Community outreach officer Andrea Griffiths said: "We hope these
fortnightly stops will prove successful and attract more children
and young people as well as those who are out working during the
week when the mobile visits their neighbourhood.
"The sites have been carefully selected as being in densely
populated areas remote from the main town library, and reflect a
trend towards taking the library service further into the hearts of
local communities."
A major revision of the mobile service is under way and changes
to the weekday routes will be brought into place on 6th
November.
