Murch top junior bowls league - 14/09/06
The talents of junior bowlers across the Vale of Glamorgan have
been highlighted during a highly successful summer
competition.
Won by youngsters from the Murch (Dinas Powys) Bowling Club,
with Llantwit Major as runners-up, the Vale Junior Bowls League was
a joint venture between local clubs and the Vale Sports Development
Unit.
The league is aimed at providing a competitive environment for
younger players, encouraging them to further their sports careers
with the potential of playing in inter-county matches.
As part of a thank you buffet provided by the Sports Development
Team, Murch were presented with the trophy, and members of both
teams received medals.
Vale Sports, Arts and Play Development Manager Karen Davies
expressed her thanks to everyone who had helped with the
organization and running of the league and highlighted the input of
volunteers and players from the clubs who coached participants.
Special mention was made of Neville Young (Llantwit Major Bowls
Club), David Roach and John Ball (Barry Central), Michael Bradley
(Cowbridge) and Tony Rice and Malcolm Wheadon (Murch).
Karen commented: “The volunteers and players worked
exceptionally hard throughout the year, and the bowls knowledge and
skills of youngsters certainly improved. The event provided
youngsters with a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and
socialize, and we hope that the young players will continue with
the sport for many years.”
