New youth facility for Rhoose - 21/09/06
A much-needed youth facility for the young people of Rhoose is
on the horizon.
Thanks to Welsh Assembly and European Union funding secured by
the Rhoose Community Centre through Creative Rural Communities, and
match funding from the Vale of Glamorgan Council, the facility will
be part of an extension to the centre at Stewart Road and will
provide a much-need youth facility for the young people of
area.
The new build will add to an already busy programme at the
centre and provide young people with a drop in facility with up to
date technology, and projects.
The Vale Youth Service will oversee the facility, and Principal
Youth Officer Bob Fussell said: "This new centre will cater for the
ever-increasing needs of young people in the area by providing a
base for the development of many new and exciting activities which
we hope we will be able to offer."
The facility will open later in the year after consultation with
the young people of Rhoose on what they want from the facility, and
Council Leader Cllr Jeffrey James, who along with Cllr Gordon Kemp
represents the area on the Vale Council, said: "The centre is much
needed and will provide a safe and supervised base for the young
people of Rhoose.
"The youngsters will have a major input into what will be
provided by way of activities and especially how the centre is
decorated."
