Town centre manager welcomes "The Buccaneer" to Barry - 12/09/06

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has welcomed the news that national pub company Barracuda Group has chosen Barry as the location for its 91st UK outlet.

The group's "Smith & Jones" branded pub, "The Buccaneer," in Holton Road represents an £800,000 investment by the company and opens its doors on Wednesday September 20,

The pub will provide around 25 full and part-time jobs, and Vale Town Centres Manager Emma Smith says: “The Buccaneer marks the beginning of an initiative to boost an evening economy drive in the centre of Barry. They join traders in the area who are committed to building a brighter Barry.”

Emma continues: “With recent events such as the Tall Ship Festival, the forthcoming grand opening of King Square and the exciting Christmas celebrations which are planned, Barry continues to attract visitors from further afield.

"Barry is one of the Vale's key towns, with its growing status ensuring popularity as an all year round destination for both residents and tourists.”

The stylishly decorated public house allows customers to enjoy a drink or a delicious meal seated in comfortable leather booths or on relaxing sofas.

The name, “The Buccaneer,” refers to the town’s history as a port and was chosen by local resident Joan Clissett

The pub will serve real ales, premium brands and contemporary wines from 11am to 11pm, and offer an award-winning menu from noon to 9pm including wraps, sandwiches, sharing plates and main meals.
