Residents air their views on crime and disorder issues -
20/09/06
More than 500 people across the Vale of Glamorgan have taken
the opportunity to put forward their views on crime and disorder
issues as part of an initiative promoted by the Safer Vale
Partnership.
The views of the public were sought in conjunction with the
visit of the Partnership's "Home Security Roadshow" to Barry and
Penarth (Tesco), Llantwit Major (Filco) and Cowbridge (Town
Hall).
Representatives from the Vale Council, Neighbourhood Watch,
South Wales Energy Advice Centre, South Wales Fire and Rescue
Service, South Wales Police and Victim Support offered help and
advice on home security and relevant crime and disorder issues
concerning residents.
Questionnaires revealed that 69% of respondents believed crime
was on the increase within the Vale but only 19% had actually been
a victim of crime within the previous year, thus highlighting the
problem that people’s perception of crime and the fear of crime are
higher than the reality.
Partnership Chairman Cllr John Thomas said: “This has been an
excellent piece of work, with all the relevant agencies on hand to
offer help and advice to the community. It was great to see the
community taking the opportunity to talk to the officers about
their views on crime and disorder so that this information can be
put to good use."
