Skin Cancer Awareness
According to Cancer Research UK, skin cancer is one of the
most common cancers in the UK and the number of people who get it
is on the increase; there are over 69,000 new cases diagnosed each
year in the UK.
Most skin cancers are caused by damage from UV (ultraviolet)
rays in sunlight, but could be prevented if we protect ourselves
from the sun.
SunSmart is the UK's national skin cancer prevention campaign,
and there are five main points to the SunSmart message
To help remember the five points, think S.M.A.R.T.
- Stay in the shade between 11am-3pm
- Make sure you never burn, as sunburn causes permanent
damage
- Always cover up
- Remember to take extra care with children
- Then use factor 15+ sunscreen
