Underage sales
It is against to law to sell certain items to young
people. One of the proactive exercises we undertake in the
Vale is to ensure that traders are obeying the law. Our
officers, with the help of young children, all of whom are young
looking, visit a random selection of local premises to try to
purchase age restricted goods such as alcohol and lighter
fuel. If a premise sells to underage children, we have
several routes open to us, from a formal written letter to
prosecution.
Some of the age restricted products are:
- Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products
- Fireworks
- Alcohol
- Knives and Similar Offensive Weapons
- Intoxicating Substances
- Cigarette Lighter Refills
- Videos and Computer Games
- Lottery Tickets
- Others – Petroleum, Liqueur Chocolates
For more information or to report a trader you believe is
selling to underage children, please contact us.
