The Secret Society
This promotion appears to have been around for
around for at least 10 years and is known by many names. The Secret
Society, The Nuova Tech Society, Neo–Tech Society, The N T Society,
Neo-Tech Publishing Company Inc and Nuova Tech Publishing Company
are all one and the same and use the same two addresses in Nevada
USA.
All of the above appear to instigate a form of
book ‘promotion’, one that appears to be widespread as members from
the USA, UK, Australia and even Norway have all reported it.
The ‘promotion’ seems to take a predictable
form.
An individual first receives a letter which
appears to be an invitation to join them and discover truth and
knowledge. The individual is asked to return an answer to this
invitation within a certain amount of days and receive free
information.
If a reply is given then the individual will
receive a pamphlet. This pamphlet contains little extra information
than that which was in the original letter but it also contains an
order for a book which cost £135.
The Advertising Standards Authority held
a ruling in May 2000 against Neo Tech. The ASA asked for proof of
benefits and said that Neo-Tech had ‘not provided evidence, other
than anecdotal to show the guaranteed earnings, improvement to
health and other benefits that have been or could be attained’.
Vale residents are warned to avoid sending
money to this promotion as although the book may be received, the
claims contained in the publication are unlikely to be
substantiated and it is highly unlikely that Trading Standards will
be able to assist in obtaining a refund of monies spent.
