Special Schools.
Seven of these are Welsh-medium primary
schools, including two new schools, Ysgol Nant Talwg and

provision is also available at our 36 units attached to
infant and primary schools. There are also 15 Special
Educational Needs units attached to mainstream schools.
Denominational education is provided at 13 primary age schools
comprising of 10 Church in Wales primary schools, one Roman
Catholic primary school, one Roman Catholic infant school
and one Roman Catholic junior school. Catholic secondary
provision is available at St Richard Gwyn Roman Catholic High
School. There is no Church in Wales Secondary School in the Vale
but parents wishing for this type of education are able to access
the Bishop of Llandaff Church in Wales secondary school under
arrangements agreed by Cardiff and the Vale authority.
Schools are classified as Community, Foundation, Voluntary
Controlled and Voluntary Aided. The Council is responsible for
coordinating the admission arrangements for Community and Voluntary
Controlled Schools, whilst the governing bodies are responsible for
the Foundation and Voluntary Aided sector.
